Possibly the finest wine ever made in my 35-year tasting experience at this well-placed property just outside the walls and ancient moat (Les Douves) of St.-Emilion. The dense ruby/purple-hued 2012 Villemaurine exhibits lots of toasty vanillin intermixed with blackberry, blueberry and raspberry fruit notes. Sweet tannins, outstanding concentration, medium to full body, and impressive purity, texture and length make for a wine that clearly announces the renaissance of Villemaurine.
